Drinking water is a temporary solution for your dry mouth.

If your mouth feels dry, it may seem like a natural response to drink more water. However, water does not perform in the same way as our natural saliva. Saliva does a lot more than just provide moisture; it also lubricates the insides of the mouth and teeth, which is key in relieving symptoms of dry mouth. Dry mouth is very rarely connected to being dehydrated so drinking a lot of water will only provide a temporary relief. Drinking too much water could, however, lead to other conditions such as hyponatremia, where the sodium in your blood is diluted and overwhelms the kidneys’ compensation mechanism.
